Cimmerian is a Prog Metal/Djent/Metalcore band from Brighton, inspired by Periphery, Architects, and Spiritbox. Each doing their best to trip each other up with weird and wonderful ideas on the other’s instruments, producing a fun and technical sound, with multiple layers and textures. Their use of synths and layers helps to create a big, sound that fills the stage.
The band is made up of Singer Alex Winter, Guitarists Liam Benn and Alex Crisp, Bassist Phil Montgomery, Multi-Instrumentalist Daniel Davis and Drummer Harvey Hush.
The band formed in Brighton during 4 of the members’ university years. Their first few gigs were completely instrumental however, they knew early that they wanted to have vocals in their sound and set out to recruit a vocalist. Once they found Alex Winter they were away.
Liam Benn
Instrument: Guitar
DOB: 2nd April
About: Founder and one of the main driving forces behind the band, Liam is the lead guitarist, who plays an 8-string to annoy Phil and writes drum parts that would make an octopus wince.
Phil Montgomery
Instrument: Bass
DOB: 9th August
About: Hailing from Northern Ireland, this lanky fellow brings low notes and energy for Cimmerian. One of the key organisers it only makes sense as a bassist that he glues the band together. Being a guitarist himself by trade Phil has helped create some of the songs for the band and is eager to see what the other guys have written for him… because every bassist looks forward to the day his guitarist asks him to sweep pick on the bass :/
Alex Crisp
Instrument: Guitar
DOB: 6th October
About: Alex is the rhythm guitarist and one of the organisers in the band, helping to manage things behind the scenes. He has been known to randomly appear in other countries, even missing his own stag to turn up in Korea. As a boomer trapped in a millennials body he is best kept away from social media.
Alex Winter
Instrument: Vocals
DOB: 28th July
About: No this is not Olly Sykes from Bring Me, he was busy. Alex is a fantastic addition to the band, with a lovely baritone sound that makes it easier for the audience to sing along to, and plenty of distorted vocals for all you head headbangers. Alex has really lifted the sound in the way the band was hoping for.
Dan Davies
Instrument: Keys/Synths
DOB: 22nd March
About: Dan is a multi-instrumentalist and a key part of the Cimmerian sound and writing process. His keys and synths are one of the main devices that set this band apart. If only he could have a normal sized keyboard the other members might have some room on stage.
Harvey Hush
Instrument: Drums
DOB: 1st September
About: Harvey is one of the main songwriters for the band. He loves nothing more than writing guitar parts as revenge for Liam’s drum parts, and hates it when Phil plays the wrong notes but is finally in the right time.
